Congratulations! SEANUTS II Publication on
Cambridge University Press
As FrieslandCampina has been working with Institute of Nutrition Mahidol University for a long time to initiate large nutritional studies in Southeast Asia, called SEANUTS (Southeast Asian Nutrition Surveys). Latest, we are proud to present that SEANUTS II on the publication is now available in the journal Public Health Nutrition, Cambridge University Press. This SEANUTS II shows result Thai children aged 6 months to 12 years face multiple nutritional challenges.
- Stunting and overweight/obesity trends: Stunting exhibits a decline with age but remains prevalent in infants and toddlers. Conversely, overweight and obesity increase significantly with age, location, and sex, peaking among children aged 7 to 12.9 years.
- Micronutrient intakes: The study reveals high risks of inadequate micronutrient intakes (calcium, iron, zinc, vitamins A, C and D) ranging from 53% to 94%. While zinc and mild vitamin A deficiencies are low, vitamin D insufficiency is notably higher in urban areas and among girls.
- Anemia and iron deficiency: Prevalence of anemia is high in infants (57%) and toddlers (35%) but declines with age. Among children aged 4 to 12.9 years, iron deficiency is prevalent (25%), and iron deficiency anemia affects 4%.
